Flow and Containment

2014-15

Geometric shapes and color are used in reaching towards blending concepts of opposites,
attractions, containment, and flow. I use these concepts to make a flow or struggle of direction.
New York artist Cecily Kahn, Jackson Pollack, and among others have pushed me to think about
space, color, design and layering for this series.

In this series of paintings, I use a theme of opposites: rigid shapes juxtaposed to organic
shapes, dynamic to flat backgrounds, different under layers being exposed by use of color and
application of paint opacity.

I then balance these opposites back into attraction and balance and vice versa. At
instances in these paintings, I play around with control while at other times with lack of control.
I control by creating rigid structural forms to contain the composition. I lose control of the
painting with droops and splashes strokes of paint. I am varying the shapes from geometric to
organic. I add intentional ripples within the paint application, making cross hatching paint
strokes. I make use of patterns and then break the patterns.

The Color of Love Series

2014

In this Series, magazines are collaged and juxtaposed to paint splatters with the intent to create visual direction.

"The Color Of Love", explores color, imagery, and positioning in storytelling a
feeling of love through Cubism and Abstract Expressionism.  Each color hue, image, and position is
carefully selected to convey the depth and intensity of emotions associated with love.

In my artistic exploration, color and imagery become the brushstrokes of emotion, and the canvas is a testament to the nuanced language of love. Through a deliberate interplay of vibrant hues and carefully curated images, I aim to evoke the complex and multifaceted emotions that define the human experience of love.

Color, to me, is not merely a visual element; it is a visceral language that speaks directly to the soul. Each hue is carefully selected to convey the depth and intensity of emotions associated with love—whether it be the warm embrace of passion or the cool tranquility of companionship. The palette becomes a symphony of feelings, resonating with the viewer on a deeply personal level.

Pictures, as visual fragments of moments frozen in time, serve as windows into the soul of love. Through the lens of my art, I capture the subtleties, gestures, and expressions that define the human connection. These images are carefully composed to transcend the literal and delve into the emotional landscape, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the shared experience of love.

Perception.

2013-14

This Perception. series work towards finding a questioning balance between abstraction and realism.  Reality is abstracted from true real colors and reduced into simplication.  Yet, clusters as well as framing are leading one back to a form and thus realism is found.  A flow of the brush is an active part in this process; almost blending the two. But is it abstraction or realism?
